806 House
Working with ASUL as the builder and designed by architect Richard Orne, this hillside project is tucked into a desert setting near a small town in Southern California. The 140- foot-long steel structure is elevated above the desert floor to preserve water flow and minimize the footprint’s impact. I managed the construction, and with our small team we tackled everything from footings to the steel frame, roofing, and even installing the 10-foot- tall insulated glass panels that comprise most of the exterior walls. The house is bookended by poured-in-place concrete walls and sheltered beneath a double roof to maximize heat deflection. A solar array is mounted on the roof to harness renewable energy.
